Members of the Israeli Knesset have expressed concerns over Egypt’s military movements in Sinai, arguing that they exceed the limits set by the peace treaty between the two countries.

The remarks were made during a conference at the Knesset titled ‘The Israeli-Egyptian Border: A Changing Security Reality’, Sama reported, citing the Israeli news outlet JDN.

Participants stressed the need to prepare for any potential scenario, pointing out that recent developments along the border with Egypt —including expanded military deployment and upgraded weaponry — could pose a threat to Israel’s security.

While acknowledging ongoing security cooperation between the two countries in certain areas, they also noted that Egypt’s actions occasionally could contradict Israeli interests.

There has been no official response from Egypt regarding these statements.

Israel’s outgoing Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, previously warned about the strength and armament of the Egyptian military.

According to JDN, Halevi stated, “Egypt has a large army, advanced weaponry, and a significant number of infantry,” cautioning that “at present, it poses no threat, but that could change in an instant.”
