Haniyeh heads to Qatar to discuss reconciliation and the reconstruction of Gaza

The Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has left the Gaza Strip for the State of Qatar to meet with Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

Taher al-Nunu, a spokesman for the government, said to alresalah.net on Thursday that two important issues will be discussed during Haniyeh’s visit: “the first is reconciliation and the second relates to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.”

He explained that the Prime Minister will discuss Qatari-funded renovation projects which are to be implemented in the Strip, as well as a settlement. The talks take place after the Emir of Qatar’s speech at the Arab summit held in Doha recently.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani proposed to hold a mini-Arab summit in Cairo, with the participation of Fateh and Hamas. The target of this would be achieving reconciliation according to a limited timetable, forming a transitional government of independent members, and also reaching an agreement on the election date.

Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has recently visited Arab countries and Turkey.
