Israeli prison administration and army argue about Palestinian prisoners

Disputes have broken out between the Israeli prison administration and the army over Palestinian prisoners, Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the disagreements occurred on the back of the recent wave of attacks by Palestinians during the Jerusalem Intifada and the increase in the number of prisoners. In addition to this, the army stopped sending soldiers to guard the security detention centres.

The Israeli administration has refused to take in any prisoners from the West Bank or East Jerusalem who were arrested by the army or police in Jerusalem.
