Since 14 September 2015, thousands of Palestinians have been arrested in the Occupied Territories and within Israel. This has come after Members of the Knesset and Jewish settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under heavy army and police cover leading to clashes and damaging the mosque.
The damage to Al-Aqsa and its subsequent closure to Muslim worshipers further escalated the situation and led to the start of what has become known as the Jerusalem Intifada.
Many international organisations have accused Israel of being heavy handed in its response to the intifada. MEMO looks at what's happening on the ground.
