The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected on Wednesday the concept that it must share responsibility for the fate of refugees from the Middle East and North Africa.

“The responsibility for providing assistance to refugees should be borne by those who instigated destabilisation in the vast region of the Middle East and North Africa,” the ministry said in a statement.

The formal response came after a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in Moscow.
