Israel’s Government Press Office will not revoke the press card of Al Jazeera reporter Elias Karram, Haaretz reported.
The decision comes after Karram provided a statement saying he does not support terrorism and security officials recommended his credentials are not revoked.
The Government Press Office said it may revisit its decision in six months’ time. It had announced that it was revoking his credentials on 16 August.
Karram had previously said that “journalistic work is an integral part of the resistance.”
However at his hearing, the Israeli citizen stressed that:
Resistance means solely and only media exposure to the reality that the Palestinian people live under occupation.
“I did not embrace, did not call for and did not incite to resistance of any type.”
“In the months to come, the GPO will keep track of the network [Al Jazeera]’s reports in Israel, in Arabic and in English, and will not hesitate to reach the necessary conclusions after consulting with legal and security officials,” the head of the Government Press Office, Nitzan Chen said.
