The Moroccan Al-Tawhid Reform Movement has called on Saudi authorities to immediately release scholars, preachers and intellectuals as well as peaceful reform advocates who have been detained for their opinion.
The movement described in a statement yesterday the arrest of the scholars and advocates in Saudi Arabia as “injustice, aggression and abuse”.
The statement said, “the detainees are known for their moderation, wisdom and intellect”.
Media reports said that Saudi authorities had arrested a number of prominent preachers in recent days in what appeared to be a campaign against opposition to absolute rule in the kingdom. There are rumours that King Salman bin Abdulaziz will abdicate power to his son Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It was reported that the arrests included a number of prominent scholars, including Salman Al-Oda, Awad Al-Qarni and Ali Al-Amri.
The Tawhid and Reform Movement is the religious authority of Morocco’s ruling Justice and Development party.
