US President Donald Trump yesterday threatened to impose secondary sanction on European companies that do business with Iran.

Responding to a question by Fox News on whether the US would sanction European companies that did business with Iran, the American president said: “Yes, of course. That’s what we’re doing. Absolutely.”

The US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal and said it will re-impose economic sanctions on Tehran.

At the time, Trump said that deal “didn’t bring calm, it didn’t bring peace, and it never will,” describing it as “a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made.”

The US declaration came less than a month after Germany, Britain and France pleaded with Trump’s administration to provide exemptions for EU companies, as Europe tries to salvage the nuclear deal without US participation.
