19-year-old Palestinian resident of Khan Al-Ahmar, Sarah Abu Dahuk, was released yesterday after being remanded in Israeli custody for almost two weeks.

A video showing Abu Dahuk being violently dragged to the ground by Israeli occupation forces after they tore off her headscarf while evicting Khan Al-Ahmar residents earlier this month went viral. The video generated criticism against Israel’s plans to demolish the neighbourhood, which is situated in East Jerusalem, and its violent crackdown on residents of the village.

Israel’s Supreme Court last week postponed the planned demolition of Khan Al-Ahmar until mid-August, after villagers said their efforts to secure retroactive building permits had been ignored by the Israeli authorities.
