The United Arab Emirates has asked Sudan to mediate reconciliation efforts with Qatar, a senior Qatari official told Quds Press.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Doha had informed Khartoum of its reservations on reconciliation with Abu Dhabi.

According to the official, Qatari authorities have no desire to restore relations to what they were before the blockade imposed on Qatar in June 2017, neither now nor even in the future, because Qatar believes the UAE is the real cause of the crisis.

He pointed out that Doha does not mind resuming relations with Saudi Arabia in the future, but prefers to wait until the crisis of slain Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, is over.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar and imposed a complete blockade on Doha accusing it of “supporting terrorism”, charges Qatar vehemently denies.
