Sustainable peace and stability cannot be achieved in the Middle East without Israel’s complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory, Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib said yesterday.

Speaking at the Cairo Ministerial Conference on Enhancing Humanitarian Response in Gaza, Bou Habib added that a comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 has provided a chance to ease the ongoing crisis. He reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the resolution’s provisions.

Bou Habib expressed hope that these efforts will contribute to establishing lasting stability along Lebanon’s southern border. This, he said, is essential for restoring calm and prosperity and avoiding the spectre of war.

Lebanon, he added, has been paying a heavy price for over a year due to what he described as Israel’s relentless aggression.

The Cairo Ministerial Conference, which began yesterday, brings together 103 delegations from countries, international organisations and financial institutions to strengthen humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The event is being held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
