June 19, 2014 at 10:45 am

The Algerian regime has signed a 10 billion Euro deal with Germany, Der Spiegel reported on Wednesday.

According to the German magazine, the deal includes the manufacturing of 980Fox 2 tanks, at a cost of 2.7 billion euros, in addition to two frigates, trucks and military vehicles.

Moreover, for the first time, Germany will build an entire arms factory for a regime considered by the west as authoritarian. Germany is working to build a vehicles factory in Ain Samara city in Algeria, with a production capacity of 120 vehicles annually. Algeria has pledged to sell its products to other countries at a later stage.

The deal dates back to 2008, when the German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Algeria. Then the Federal Security Council approved it in 2011, explaining that Algeria was a partner of the US in its war on terror.
