The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, who is also his president’s special envoy to the Middle East, has said that Bashar Al-Assad’s regime has lost control of Syria. According to Mikhail Bogdanov, the popular revolution is about to triumph.

Speaking to the Russian Social Chamber on Thursday, Bogdanov said that his country has an action plan for the evacuation of Russian citizens from Syria in the event that the circumstances demand it. He pointed out that there are thousands of Russian citizens in Syria, most of them unregistered with their embassy. There are, he explained, many Russian women who are married to Syrians and their children also have Russian citizenship; they represent the majority of Russians in Syria. He also claimed that around half of the Russian nationals in the country support the revolution.

Bogdanov announced that that Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, is due to meet a delegation of the Syrian opposition. Headed by Kadri Gamil, a member of the Popular Front for Change and Liberation, an opposition coalition, the delegation has already arrived in Moscow for the meeting.

It was also announced that the Arab UN envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, will visit Damascus in the near future to hold talks with all concerned parties.
