Houthis storm Muslim Brotherhood's party office in Aden, Yemen

Shia Houthi militants on Saturday stormed into the headquarters of Al-Islah Party, the political arm of Yemen’s Muslim Brotherhood, in Kraytar, a district of the southern province of Aden, a party official has said.

“Houthi and allied militants stormed into the party headquarters today,” Khaled Heidan, an Al-Islah media spokesman in Aden, told Anadolu Agency.

He added that the Houthi gunmen had looted the contents of the party headquarters, noting that party officials were not inside the premises at the time.

Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.

On March 25, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies began an extensive military campaign targeting Houthi positions across Yemen.

Riyadh says its anti-Houthi campaign comes in response to appeals by embattled Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi for military intervention against the Shia group.

The Houthis, for their part, denounce the offensive as an unwarranted “Saudi-American aggression” against Yemen.

A Saudi Arabia-proposed humanitarian truce has been in effect in Yemen since late on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia says the five-day truce can be extended if the Houthis abide by a cease-fire.
