Turkish charity TIKA has carried out 543 aid projects in Palestine since it opened its first office in the territories in 2005, the Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

TIKA carries out education, healthcare, heritage protection, infrastructure and water desalination projects in Palestine and other areas in the world.

Anadolu said that TIKA carried out 332 projects in occupied areas in West Bank, 81 in East Jerusalem and 130 in the besieged Gaza Strip.

One of the agency’s larger projects was modernising a hospital in the Gaza Strip with the capacity of 180 beds and providing housing for 320 families.

TIKA’s Palestine Coordinator Bülent Korkmaz said the goal of his organisation is to offer aid to people, in Palestine and other places regardless to their origins, religion or race.

“We work with the needy in Palestine and other countries without hidden political or ideological goals,” he said.

He said that his organisation has 60 offices in 58 countries and is active in more than 170 countries around the world.
