Israeli sources said on Tuesday evening that security agencies had foiled two attempts attributed to Iran to target Israeli diplomats in the United Arab Emirates, prompting Tel Aviv to carry out what was described as a secret military evacuation of some of its diplomatic staff in Abu Dhabi.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, the two attempts were not a “theoretical threat” but operations that had “moved into the execution phase”, aimed at assassinating Israeli diplomatic personnel.
Reports quoted a senior Israeli official as saying the incident was “a specific hunting attempt against Israeli diplomats”, adding that “the two attacks were carried out and a catastrophe was prevented twice”.
Under the Israeli account, security bodies subsequently ordered the immediate evacuation of some non-essential staff from Israeli missions in the UAE.
Israeli sources also indicated that the evacuation was conducted by military teams using an Emirati base inside the country.
