A Tunisian court sentenced to death three men on Wednesday accused of killing a member of Tunisia’s national security earlier this year.

Assistant Prosecutor Mohammed bin Khalifa told Anadolu news agency: “The Court of First Instance sentenced last night three men to death over charges of killing a security element in Zaghouan governorate in January.”

The court has also handed down sentences against three others ranging between 10 and 22 years on charges of joining terrorist organisations inside and outside the country.

The Tunisian Interior Ministry said in a statement in January: “A member of the National Security Ali Sharabi has been slaughtered in Zaghouan as he returned from work in the capital Tunis by a group of extremist takfiri men.”

This is the second death sentence in Tunisia since 1994.
