Mubarak’s men ‘returned stronger’ to political scene

During a meeting with Egyptian workers, former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh criticised the current Egyptian authorities strongly, Aalmesryoon.com reported on Friday. At a function marking Workers’ Day in Al-Gharbiyya Governorate, Aboul Fotouh described the Egyptian government of using “propaganda” and “aggressive autocratic power” as bases to carry on running the country.

“No state can be run by having the mass media defaming certain people and then having the security services arresting them,” he said. Praising the workers, he said that they did a favour for the politicians, the army and journalists. “Our bodies were built by the efforts of these simple people.”

Aboul Fotouh called on the Egyptian workers not to wait for the “thieves who stole the billions” belonging to the country, against whom the people revolted during Mubarak’s era. “You can’t wait until they have completed their theft.”

Mubarak’s officials have returned “stronger” than before, he pointed out, and they are working to enact a law that will block appeals against selling public property to the private sector. This will give them the chance to continue stealing from the country, he claimed.

Criticising those workers’ institution whose role now appears to be simply to applaud the measures taken by the regime, he asked, “Are you waiting for them to bring back your rights?”

He closed by noting that if the workers stopped protesting because their leaders did nothing for them, the army would shoot them as there would be no one around to ask about them.
