Thirteen people were killed in multiple attacks across the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Thursday, a police officer said.

In the first incident, six people were killed and 22 others injured when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives vest inside a crowded market in al-Shurtta neighborhood, police officer Nader al-Janabi told reporters.

Separately, three people were killed and another eight injured when an improvised bomb went off near a market in al-Bakriya neighborhood, al-Janabi said.

He added that two other separate blasts killed two people and injured 12 others in al-Amin and al-Zafraniya, while unidentified assailants broke into a house in Nafaq al-Shurtta area and killed one person.

Also, a woman’s body was found with stab wounds in al-Hussainiya district, he added.

Iraqi officials often blame the attacks on the Daesh terrorist group, which overran vast swathes of territory in Iraq in 2014.
