Egyptian police claimed on Tuesday that a jailed Muslim Brotherhood member had “committed suicide.”
In a statement, the Security Directorate in the Nile Delta province of Sharqiya said that Hussein Mohamed Radwan had hanged himself in prison.
His family, however, accused security forces of killing him.
According to a statement issued by the Brotherhood, Radwan’s family said the Brotherhood leader had been “abducted” by security forces on Sunday.

“He had involuntarily disappeared since and we were shocked to hear the news that he had been killed by coup security forces,” the statement said.
In recent weeks, several opponents of the regime of President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi have died in prison.
Since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup, Egyptian authorities have launched a relentless crackdown on the Brotherhood, killing hundreds and arresting thousands.
