The Dubai Airports Company revealed on Monday that the number of passengers traveling through Dubai International Airport rose by 9.2 per cent during the first four months of 2017, reaching 30.55 million passengers compared with 27.9 million during the same period last year. Dubai is one of the world’s busiest airports for international travellers, with 90 carriers connecting to more than 2,400 international destinations.

According to the company’s report, India continued to lead the ranking in terms of growing passenger traffic, with 1.55 million passengers. Trips to South America made it the fastest growing continental destination with 38.9 per cent of Dubai’s passengers, followed by Eastern Europe (33.9 percent) and Asia (18.9 percent).

“The growth in the first four months of this year has been satisfactory,” said Jamal Al-Hai, Vice President at Dubai Airports. “With the Islamic world celebrating Eid Al-Fitr [late June], which coincides with the start of the summer holidays, we will continue to enhance performance in the first half of this year.”
