Paper napkins imported from Israel anger Tunisians

There has been a widespread controversy in Tunisia, following the spread of goods imported from Israel, including paper napkins and several other consumer goods.

Napkins stating ‘made in Israel’

Photos have been circulated on social media websites showing paper-napkins, which bear the expression “Made in Israel”, and which are being sold in a popular shop. Social media leaders denounced the Tunisian authorities’ leniency with commercial normalisation.

The Tunisian General Labour Union demanded the withdrawal of these napkins, which are being imported from the occupation and promoted in one of the major shops in Tunisia, and called on citizens to boycott those products.

The Labour Union also called on the Ministries of Tourism and Foreign Affairs to investigate a Tunisian travel agency’s deliberate organisation of tourist trips to occupied Palestine through the passing by the Zionist entity’s official security and administrative procedures, which constitutes a tourism normalisation with Israel.

Director General of Interests at the Ministry of Commerce and Tourism, Habib Jelassi, explained that Interests Departments of the Ministry of Commerce do not sign deals and do not carry out supply operations. Instead, these paper napkins have long been supplied from a Spanish origin and a French distributor because it is the CASINO that distributes the goods to the GEANT trademark and does not send Israeli-made goods to Tunisia because there is no trade dealing with Israel.
