Bullied by US, ICC lacks political will, Palestinian rights specialist says

Director of Al-Haq Institution for Human Rights Sha’wan Jabarin said yesterday that the International Criminal Court (ICC) does not look into Israeli crimes due to the lack of political will and US bullying, Felesteen.ps reported.

Speaking to the newspaper, Jabarin said that the ICC stopped investigating Israeli crimes against Palestinians since July, pointing to the American bullying which undermines the workflow of the international body.

He added that the international community has to move to force the court to immediately prosecute the Israeli occupation over its crimes against Palestinians.

Jabarin warned that American interference would undermine the legal and political will of the court and reinforces the prevailing idea that international law is not trustworthy.

Regarding the report issued by the UN Human Rights Council, which found that Israel used lethal force against unarmed protesters and killed them in spite of the fact they posed no real danger to Israeli soldier, Jabarin said if the ICC does not take action following the report, it would be an embarrassment for the organisation.
