Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed that Iran is seeking no clashes in the region, but it has always been trying to defend and will keep defending its interests.

After a meeting he had with his Japanese counterpart in Tokyo on Thursday, Zarif said that they discussed the latest developments in the region, the US measures and the way to maintain the nuclear agreement in case the international community is willing to, reported the Iranian TV Channel Al-Alam.

Zarif added that Japan’s foreign minister stressed his country’s adherence to the nuclear agreement and its desire to pursue its diplomatic ways to contain tension in the region. The Japanese minister also explained ways to ease the tension and block US moves seeking war. Zarif insisted that Iran is not seeking a confrontation, but will go on defending its interests, the way it did a long time before.

The Iranian minister clarified that the meeting also discussed the international community’s need to be committed to the normalisation of economic relations with Iran, which constitute the main objective of the nuclear agreement, in case the international community wishes to maintain it.
