Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Mohieddin Salem, on Monday condemned the international community’s silence over what he described as ongoing violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El Fasher in North Darfur and in Bara, North Kordofan.

According to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), Salem made the remarks during his meeting in Port Sudan with Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who arrived in the country on Monday for a five-day visit.

The minister denounced “the international community’s silence regarding the violations committed and still being committed by the RSF in El Fasher and Bara.”

He also stressed “the need for concerted international efforts to classify the RSF as a terrorist organisation,” the agency reported.

Salem reaffirmed “the government’s full commitment to facilitating the work of humanitarian organisations and ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers,” noting the continued partnership with the IOM, particularly in relation to the voluntary return project for Sudanese migrants.

Sudan has been witnessing a worsening humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing conflict between the army and the RSF since April 2023, which has killed tens of thousands and displaced nearly 13 million people.
