A spokesperson for the European Commission for Humanitarian Affairs, Eva Hrentcherova, said Thursday that the humanitarian situation in Sudan has reached an unimaginable level of suffering, condemning the atrocities committed in the country.

Speaking to Cairo News Channel, Hrentcherova stressed that “Sudan is bleeding,” adding: “There are no words to express how severe this humanitarian catastrophe is. This crisis is unlike anything we have encountered elsewhere, despite our extensive efforts to provide assistance.”

She noted that the scale of need has surpassed all available humanitarian capacities, emphasising that the European Union “strongly condemns all forms of atrocities taking place in Sudan.”

Hrentcherova stated that the violations committed in Sudan amount to breaches of international humanitarian law, pointing out that starvation and killing are being used as weapons of war. She called on all parties to return to negotiations and agree to an immediate and lasting ceasefire.

The EU spokesperson also urged unrestricted humanitarian access to allow aid organizations to reach millions of people facing acute and worsening danger.
