The Israeli occupation army launched on Wednesday a new operation in the governorate of Tubas in the northern occupied West Bank.

Tubas Governor Ahmed al-Asaad said on Wednesday that the governorate is witnessing a large-scale military operation by the Israeli army, extending across Tubas, Tammun, Tayasir, Aqaba and al-Far’a.

Speaking to journalist Basant Akram on Cairo News Channel, al-Asaad said Israeli forces had divided the governorate into separate security zones and closed the main entrances to the city using earth mounds.

He added that troops had evacuated several homes in Tammun and turned them into military barracks, while also taking over high-rise buildings in Tubas to use as military positions.

According to al-Asaad, reconnaissance drones and Apache attack helicopters have been involved in the operation since the early hours of the morning.

“The military operation is still ongoing,” he said, adding that the Central Emergency Committee had been activated “to respond to calls for assistance and support our people, whether in Gaza, Jerusalem, Jenin or Tubas.”

He stressed that residents remain steadfast, saying: “Our people are determined because they are in the right, and these measures will not deter them from continuing their struggle for freedom and independence.”

Asked about the reasons for the timing of the escalation, al-Asaad said the operation “has no genuine security objectives,” describing it as “a primarily political operation.”
