As US-Israel relations face “a noticeable drop-in public support”, political and diplomatic circles in Tel Aviv are concerned about what they see as the collapse of bipartisan support in the United States. This situation has increased calls for Israel to adapt its policies to the new reality and avoid what it sees as a looming crisis.

Ofer Israeli, a strategist and expert in international security policy at the Ashkelon Academic College, said: “For more than 50 years, US support for Israel has been a cornerstone of Washington’s foreign policy, cutting across political parties and trends. But that era is now over. Current Israeli policy has turned the country from a strategic partner into a source of division in US domestic debate – a trend that intensified after the latest aggressive war.”

In an article published by Maariv, translated by Arabi21, he added: “Tel Aviv faces a new reality: a divided political system in the United States, where the old consensus has broken down into ideological competition. This is not theoretical. While core security aid is still approved, the sharp debates in Congress, including partisan votes on recent aid packages, show an unprecedented split.”

He noted: “For Israel, the message is clear: it must let go of nostalgia for the days of US internal agreement and adopt a new, dynamic diplomatic approach. This shift comes from two trends in the US. First, progressive circles are undergoing values change, where Israel is no longer seen as a liberal state under attack, but rather a privileged party in Western mechanisms of oppression.”
