Activists said on Monday that at least 29 people have died in ongoing protests in Iran, as demonstrations enter their second week.

The US-based human rights group, Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), reported that more than 1,200 people have been arrested during protests across the country against the state leadership.

Activists added that among those killed were two members of the security forces.

According to the activists, protests have taken place in at least 88 cities over the past few days, with demonstrations organised in 27 out of 31 provinces nationwide.

They said that after security forces responded with violence, especially in rural areas, protests have returned to major cities, including Tehran and Mashhad.

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s judiciary announced it would deal with the events firmly, without any leniency.
