The Palestinian National Liberation Movement Fatah has condemned the decision by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to dismiss 575 employees, describing the move as a “legal and moral crime” that deepens Palestinian suffering amid the ongoing war and siege on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Information Commission in the southern governorates, Fatah said the decision was unjust and constituted a clear violation of the rights of Palestinian workers. It argued that the dismissals cannot be separated from the broader conditions facing Palestinians, warning that such measures deprive large segments of society of their means of survival at a time of extreme hardship.
Fatah said the affected employees are not merely administrative staff but displaced families struggling to survive, many of whom include children without shelter or a stable source of income. It described them as among the most vital components of Palestinian society, particularly during the current humanitarian crisis.

The movement called on the United Nations Secretary-General to intervene directly with UNRWA’s management to reverse the decision and reinstate all dismissed employees without conditions. It also urged international institutions to fulfil their legal responsibilities in addressing what it described as a serious and escalating crisis.
Fatah warned that the dismissals would have severe humanitarian and social consequences, reaffirming its full support for the rights and dignity of the affected workers. It stressed the need for concrete action to address what it called a grave moral failure.
The statement concluded by saying that the Palestinian people cannot endure further injustice amid ongoing killing and displacement, adding that Fatah will continue to defend the rights and dignity of Pale.
