Hamas on Sunday welcomed a Belgian royal decree banning the stopover and transit of aircraft carrying military equipment destined for Israel, describing the decision as a step in line with international law.

In a statement received by Quds Press, the movement said the decree prevents aircraft transporting military supplies “to the Zionist entity” that are used against Palestinians. Hamas described the Belgian measure as consistent with the principles of human rights and justice, which it said Israel violates on a daily basis.

The movement urged other countries to impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, calling for the Israeli occupation to be politically, diplomatically, and militarily isolated. Hamas also called for the activation of international mechanisms to prosecute Israel for the crimes of ethnic cleansing and genocide.

Since October 2023, Israel has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, including killing, starvation, destruction, displacement, and arbitrary arrests, ignoring international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt its actions.

This genocide has left more than 239,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. In addition, hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine has claimed the lives of many, mostly children. Furthermore, the occupation has caused widespread destruction, effectively erasing most of the Gaza Strip’s cities and towns from the map.
