Israel is preparing for the possibility that Yemen’s Houthi movement could resume missile and drone attacks against it if the United States carries out a military strike on Iran, according to an Israeli media report.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) reported that security officials assess the Houthis would join a direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran, fighting alongside Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to Kan, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has held special consultations in recent days to assess the Houthi threat. He reportedly instructed the army’s Command to prepare and revalidate a target bank in Yemen, in coordination with the Military Intelligence Directorate and the Air Force.
In a related development, Kan Radio reported on Wednesday that a source within one of the Yemeni factions opposed to the Houthis had informed the US administration that the group is making operational preparations to resume attacks on US vessels in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea if Washington attacks Iran.
Attention is now focused on Oman, where Iranian-American talks are expected to take place on Friday as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions and pursue a diplomatic solution within the framework of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, amid mutual threats and heightened security tensions across the Middle East.
