The Palestinian Security Forces have expressed “deep regret” over the death of two children and the injury of others during a security operation in Tubas, north-east of the West Bank, in an incident that has drawn widespread condemnation.

In an official statement, the security establishment said it was closely following what happened during a mission carried out by a security force in Tubas to arrest a man wanted by law. The statement said the operation resulted in the death of the wanted man’s son and the injury of his daughter.

The statement expressed “deep regret for the victims who fell during the mission” and confirmed that the circumstances of the incident are still under careful and thorough review.

It added that an immediate and comprehensive investigation has been opened to establish all details and determine responsibility with full transparency and clarity. The findings will be announced once the investigation is complete.

The security establishment stressed its full commitment to enforcing the law, protecting citizens, and ensuring their safety. It said any violations, if proven, would be dealt with in accordance with the law and without leniency.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) held the Palestinian Authority’s security forces fully responsible for the killing of the two children from the Samara family in the town of Tammun, in Tubas governorate, after targeting a vehicle they were traveling in with their father, Samer Samara, who is wanted by Israeli forces

In a statement, Hamas described the incident as a “serious crime” and a “black mark” on the record of the security services, accusing them of “using force against their own people instead of protecting them”. The movement held the Palestinian Authority leadership fully responsible for the incident and its consequences. It warned of the impact of such actions on national unity and called for those involved to be held accountable, for the pursuit of wanted individuals to stop, and for the release of political detainees.
