Chadian authorities have closed several border crossings with Sudan without prior notice following the killing of 13 Chadian soldiers in an attack attributed to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), local Sudanese sources reported on Sunday.

According to the sources, Chad shut all crossings along its border with Sudan, including routes used by international humanitarian organisations to deliver aid. The closures reportedly affect the crossings at Tina, Adré, Forbaranga and Umm Dukhun.

Officials are said to have taken the measure as a precautionary security step amid escalating fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army, backed by allied joint forces, near the border area around Tina.

The decision comes after clashes in Sudan moved closer to Chadian territory, raising concerns about cross-border infiltration by armed groups. Reports indicated that RSF fighters launched an attack on the city of Al-Tina on Saturday, described as one of the Sudanese army’s last strongholds in the Darfur region, triggering intense battles between the rival forces.

The closure is expected to further complicate humanitarian operations in western Sudan, where aid deliveries rely heavily on cross-border access from neighbouring countries.
