Egyptian sources say an exceptional decision to raise petrol and diesel prices may be issued due to regional conditions linked to the conflict involving Iran.
Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has previously warned about the possible impact of the war on the Egyptian economy and on the prices of various goods and services, saying the government is ready to deal with all scenarios.
He added that the state may resort to “temporary” exceptional measures if global fuel prices rise sharply.
Responding to concerns about a potential fuel price increase or disruptions to electricity supplies due to regional escalation, Madbouly said that “no decisions or measures have been taken so far”, stressing that the government is closely monitoring developments.
