The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has called on international mediators and the global community to intervene urgently to curb the Israeli occupation crimes following a strike that killed nine Palestinian police officers in the central Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, Hamas said an Israeli airstrike targeted a police vehicle, killing Colonel Iyad Abu Yousef, head of the Intervention Police in the Central Governorate, along with eight other officers and police personnel.

The movement said the attack represented a continuation of the Israeli brutal crimes against Palestinians in Gaza and an attempt to create chaos by targeting civilian police forces.

Hamas stated that the incident reflects “the true face of the occupation”, accusing Israel of pursuing a policy aimed at prolonging the war of extermination and genocide in the Gaza Strip while deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.

The group also accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement signed months ago and disregarding its obligations under the deal.

Hamas urged mediators, international organisations and global institutions to take urgent action to halt repeated attacks on civilians and civilian institutions in Gaza, and to enforce compliance with international law and humanitarian norms.
