Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the United States and Israel would bear responsibility for any further escalation in the region.
It said what it described as a US-Israeli military attack on Iran had created a dangerous situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The ministry added that shipping through the Strait has not been fully halted, but is continuing under special measures that take into account current conditions.
“We are following a responsible approach to avoid exposing international navigation to additional risks,” it said.
It stressed that measures had been taken to protect commercial vessels and shipping routes in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman.

The ministry held the United States and Israel responsible for any escalation or threat to security and stability in the region.
Furthermore, it noted that maritime security arrangements in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz must be carried out in line with international law and respect for national sovereignty.
It said the only way to ensure stability is to halt attacks and respect what it described as Iran’s legitimate rights.
The ministry added that ships from countries not involved in hostile actions can pass through the Strait of Hormuz, provided they coordinate with Iran.
It also warned that Iran would respond to the use of any facilities or capabilities of neighbouring countries against it, whether directly or indirectly.
