Jordan’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday welcomed a resolution adopted unanimously by the executive board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during its 224th session in Paris concerning the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls under the agenda item “Occupied Palestine”.

The ministry said the decision considers all measures taken by Israel, as the occupying power, to change the character and legal status of Jerusalem to be null and void and should be reversed.

It added that the resolution renews calls on Israel to halt all its actions in the Old City and its walls, which target the city’s cultural and historical value and put its heritage at risk.

The ministry stressed that the decision reflects Jordan’s firm position on Jerusalem, including Islamic and Christian holy sites, and reinforces previous resolutions issued by the organization’s executive board and World Heritage Committee.
