The Palestinian Islamic Jihad accused Israel on Wednesday of continuing to violate the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip through ongoing military attacks and the targeting of civilians.

In a statement, the movement said Israeli bombardment carried out during the day killed and wounded a number of Palestinians in different parts of Gaza.

The group said the attacks form part of Israel’s continuing crimes against Palestinians and occur alongside the ongoing humanitarian blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Islamic Jihad also criticised Israeli policies in the occupied West Bank, saying settlement expansion remains part of a broader annexation strategy.

According to the movement, Israeli planning authorities recently approved the construction of 2,162 new settlement units in several settlements across the northern and southern West Bank.

The movement said the approvals are intended to strengthen Israeli control over the territory and accelerate settlement expansion.

In its statement, Islamic Jihad called on countries sponsoring and guaranteeing the ceasefire agreement, as well as international and human rights organisations, to take action.

The movement urged international actors to take concrete steps to halt the Israeli aggression and to ensure full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
