Lebanon’s Hezbollah has condemned direct negotiations with Israel and the outcomes they may produce, describing the approach as “flawed and suspicious” and aimed at “submission and surrender”.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the group said the rounds of direct talks involving a Lebanese government delegation in Washington were taking place under what it described as US-imposed conditions that undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and shift its political position towards “those reconciled with the Zionist occupation”.

Hezbollah said the “reconciliation-based” negotiations were unlikely to achieve any positive results because, in its view, they are founded on submission and surrender.

The group reiterated its condemnation of what it called the obstructive role of the talks, arguing that they hinder efforts to confront Israeli policies and undermine the resistance movement and the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people.

It said those sacrifices represent sources of strength that could be used to secure a full and unconditional Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah also said that continued participation in the direct negotiations reflects compliance with directives from the US administration, accusing the Lebanese authorities of making decisions unilaterally and in violation of the country’s constitutional and legal framework.

The group added that the policy aligns with what it sees as the objectives of the United States and Israel, warning of potential consequences for Lebanon’s stability, independence and sovereignty.
