Egypt urges US to accelerate deployment of international stabilisation force in Gaza

Egypt has called on the United States to expedite the deployment of an international stabilisation force in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the full delivery of humanitarian aid, and complete the remaining steps of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

The appeal was made during a meeting on Thursday between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, according to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry said Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of rapidly deploying the international stabilization force, ensuring unrestricted humanitarian assistance to Gaza, and completing implementation of the first phase of the US-backed plan.

According to the statement, Abdel-Aty also called for accelerating the work of the Palestinian committee designated to administer the Gaza Strip and urged an end to what Egypt described as Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, saying such measures would help reduce tensions and support regional stability.

The Egyptian statement came after Israel’s public broadcaster reported on Thursday that around 30 Moroccan officers had conducted a field visit to Gaza as part of preparations for Morocco’s participation in the proposed international stabilization force.

Morocco announced on 15th July that it had signed an agreement to participate in the mission, including the deployment of officers to its joint command, police and gendarmerie personnel, and the establishment of a field military hospital in Gaza.

According to the report, the UN Security Council authorised the creation of a temporary international force for Gaza in November 2025 under Resolution 2803, endorsing the Trump administration’s ceasefire and transitional governance plan for the territory.

Israel’s public broadcaster also reported that, as of Thursday, the Israeli government had not granted final approval for the deployment of the force, while arrangements for the Palestinian committee to assume responsibility for administering Gaza remained unresolved.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been repeatedly tested by ongoing hostilities. Palestinian authorities have accused Israel of continuing airstrikes, shootings, and military incursions in Gaza despite the agreement. According to Palestinian officials, more than 73,000 people have been killed and 173,000 wounded, and around 90 percent of civilian infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed during Israel’s ongoing genocide in the besieged enclave.
