In UN General Assembly address, China opposes ‘unilateral military actions’ amid US-Iran war, calls for 2-state Palestine solution track

China’s Vice President Han Zheng on Saturday voiced Beijing’s opposition to “unilateral military actions” amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, also using his address to the UN General Assembly to urge a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, Anadolu reports.

“We should settle differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation, and oppose unilateral military actions that violate the UN Charter and circumvent Security Council authorization,” Han said, urging major countries to shoulder “special responsibilities for safeguarding international peace and security,” and take the lead in “complying with the rules, upholding rule of law, and doing what’s right.”

He also said China believes the sovereignty and security of Middle Eastern countries, including Gulf states, should be respected.

“International industrial and supply chains should be kept stable and unimpeded, and global trade should be safeguarded,” said Han.

He called for advancing governance in the West Bank and post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza in line with the principle of Palestinians governing Palestine.

China also calls for “bringing the Palestinian question back onto the right track of the two-state solution at an early date,” he said.

Ukraine, AI, international trade

On Ukraine, he said China plays a continued “constructive role in its own way” to achieve a political settlement of the crisis, also urging “the relevant country to immediately stop using the threat of force against Cuba and immediately and completely lift the blockade and sanctions against Cuba.”

On tech advances, he said the world should take a people-centered approach and ensure positive AI development amid the rapid development of new technologies and industrial transformation, while narrowing the digital divide and promoting development that is universally beneficial.

Han also urged “safeguarding the WTO (World Trade Organization)-centered, rules-based multilateral trading system.”

“Protectionism produces no winners. Building walls, erecting barriers, decoupling, and cutting off supply chains disrupt global industrial and supply chains and harm the interests of all parties,” he added.

He called for rebuilding unity and mutual trust through communication and dialogue among civilizations, saying “condescension and the self-centered mindset have no place in the interactions among different cultures.”

Finally, he said that the world should stay committed to multilateralism and take steps to safeguard fairness and justice.

All countries are equal members of the international community and world affairs should be handled by all through consultation, he said.

Han also voiced support for the UN “reforming and improving itself.”
