Nela Riehl, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) and a member of its Committee on Foreign Affairs, said all international organisations involved in human rights and humanitarian work have repeatedly called for increased funding and aid for Sudan, provided by member states of many of these organisations.

Speaking to broadcaster Al-Qahera News, Riehl said: “I am, of course, grateful to all the countries hosting Sudanese refugees, and as a member of the European Parliament and a citizen of the European Union, I feel and recognise that we have not done enough for them.”

She added: “I am grateful to all the countries taking action in this regard, and I hope more measures will be taken. I believe it is our responsibility, as the European Union, to support and assist these countries by providing the necessary funding.”

She continued: “We need to invest in providing assistance to refugee children and helping them attend school.”
