Iran is prepared to respond in “unpredictable” ways to any attack on its territorial integrity, the Iranian parliament speaker said, warning that threats of all-out war or assassination operations would not force the Iranian people to abandon their rights and interests.
In remarks carried by the Iranian Tasnim news agency, the speaker said Tehran would not allow any foreign power to impose its will on the country or dictate its choices. He added that military threats would not change Iran’s position.
The United States would not be credible in Tehran’s eyes unless it honoured its commitments in a genuine and tangible way, changed its behaviour and abandoned what he described as US ambitions, he said.
The Iranian official accused Washington of causing the current crisis through “miscalculations”, saying the United States had dragged itself into the crisis through war and must take the necessary steps to find a way out.
