Muslim Brotherhood spokesman, Gehad Al-Haddad, said he accompanied the EU envoy, Bernardino Lion, to Rabaa Al-Addawiyya to verify whether or not there were weapons hidden by pro-Morsi supporters.
Speaking to Anatolia news agency, Al-Haddad said: "I met Bernardino Lion at Rabaa Al-Adawiyya on Wednesday and we spent two hours wandering the Square and discussing several proposals that could end the current crisis in Egypt." Mr Al-Haddad affirmed they only discussed "general issues."
Current Egyptian government officials and Egyptian mass media claim that weapons are hidden in Rabaa Al-Adawiyya and Al-Nahada Square, where pro-Morsi protesters have been for more than a month. They also claim that many fugitives are taking refuge there.
Al-Haddad said: "We told him that we insistently refuse the policy of imposing de facto rulings. We asserted that there is no alternative to the democratic legitimacy and the protection of freedom in Egypt."
