Several Members of European parliament have protested at a visit and speech given by Israeli President, Shimon Peres, at the European Parliament on Tuesday.

The MEPs held up the pictures of numerous Palestinian prisoners, including Samer Issawi who has been on hunger strike for over 231 days. They also held up pictures of the Fatah official and PLC member, Marwan Barghouti.

Over 4,500 Palestinian prisoners are currently detained in occupation prisons under difficult health and humanitarian conditions. Over 8 prisoners have been on hunger strike for extended periods of time in protest at their re-arrest, including Ayman Al-Sharawneh and Samer Issawi.

Peres made a speech at the European Parliament talking about the new Israeli government, negotiations with the PA, and the two-state solution.
