Moscow accuses NATO of looking for Libyan scenario in Syria

January 30, 2014 at 10:44 am

Moscow has accused some NATO countries of trying to repeat the Libyan scenario in Syria. In a statement on the fringe of the International Exhibition of Weapons and Military Equipment in the city of Nizhny Tagil on Thursday, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the actions of a group of NATO countries violate the principles set out by the UN Security Council.

The only conclusion, he added, is that they are trying to repeat the Libyan scenario in Syria.

Ryabkov stressed that Moscow opposes strongly any such actions in the international arena. He pointed out that Russia is ready to protect those who will take charge of destroying Syria’s chemical weapons.
