Mossad spied on Sarkozy

January 30, 2014 at 10:00 am

The French newspaper Le Monde has revealed that the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad was spying on former French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

According to the documents leaked by US national security officer Edward Snowden, the French electronic guard unit discovered a hacking attempt on the Elysee Palace’s networks on 10 May 2012.

The paper noted that following the cyber attack on the Elysee’s computer systems, officials from the French intelligence service headed to Washington to meet with US intelligence officials to find out whether or not the US was behind the attack.

However the leaked document that had been prepared by US intelligence before the meeting states that the US did not carry out the attack. It also stresses that officials had asked neither Mossad nor the Israeli cyber intelligence unit if they were involved.

According to Le Monde, the fact that the Americans mentioned Israel’s Mossad is in and of itself a clear indication that the Israelis were indeed behind the attempt to spy on Sarkozy.
