Palestinian journalist wins International Media Festival award

January 30, 2014 at 1:49 pm

Al-Jazeera’s correspondent in the Gaza Strip, Wael Al-Dahdouh, has won an award at the International Media Festival held in London on Sunday for his outstanding coverage of the conflict in his home country.

US diplomat Mark Hambley made the announcement that Al-Dahdouh had topped a group of short-listed journalists from around the world. Nominations for the award were submitted by various media organisations.

“I consider this victory to be a tribute to all the Palestinian journalists, especially in the Gaza Strip, who insisted on continuing to work under the bombing and under fire,” said Mr Al-Dahdouh, “and to my colleagues at Al-Jazeera, without whom the coverage couldn’t have been unique and worthy of appreciation.” He dedicated his victory to the journalists martyred in this “noble humanitarian cause”.

The ceremony was attended by journalists and diplomats from all over the world.
