Russia: Syrian opposition refuse to meet Syrian officials in Moscow

January 30, 2014 at 10:00 am

Syrian opposition groups refused a Russian invitation to meet officials from the Syrian regime in Moscow, Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Ukashević has said.

According to Ukashević, the meeting was aimed at pushing for the success of Geneva II, should the Coalition of the Syrian Opposition attend. It might have been in favour of the opposition if it took place.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Syrian opposition is still not ready to unconditionally attend the Geneva II conference.

Lavrov said that this adds more obstacles to the success of the conference.
